Hartford County resident Zachary Swain, of Southington and Marlborough, New Hampshire, died around 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 3, on the Maine Turnpike.

According to Shannon Moss, spokeswoman for the Maine State Police, troopers responded to the area of mile marker 32 southbound on the Maine Turnpike for a motorcycle crash.

An initial investigation shows that Swain was exiting the highway and failed to negotiate the curved southbound off-ramp, Moss said.

Swain struck the guard rail and was ejected from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead on the scene by rescue personnel.

Swain was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

According to his obituary, Swain was born in New Britain, graduated from Southington High School, Class of 2021, and worked in the construction industry.
